The addition of a simple accessory can make all the difference to your outfit. These 3 accessories are the ones I reach for most often when an outfit needs a touch more personality…

“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.” – Coco Chanel

I am sorry Mademoiselle Chanel, I don’t think I can agree with you on this one. You see, I have the complete opposite problem. Every time I get dressed, I look in the mirror and feel the urge to add a finishing touch to my outfit. I need to add something that elevates it a little bit more. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, just a little accessory to tie everything together nicely.

For this reason, my collection of accessories is quite extensive. Even with ample choice, there are 3 finishing accessories that I will reach for almost every single time…

A SCARF

Scarves are the true MVP of accessories. There are so many different styles of scarf available, and just as many different ways in which to incorporate them into your outfit. If my outfit feels like it could do with a bit of a lift, I often tie one of my longer scarves in my hair, or grab a square one to tie around my neck. They also make excellent bag accessories and belt alternatives. There are piles of scarves at most op-shops (this is where I found most of mine!), and you can pick them up dirt cheap on Ebay too.

SIMPLE, SLEEK JEWELLERY

Sure, a statement necklace is a huge injection of personality in an outfit, but it isn’t required 100% of the time. Most often, I turn to my every day jewellery pieces for some lift in an outfit. Think stackable rings, fine bangles, and simple chains. They add that finishing touch without being the main focus of what ever you are wearing. If you get yourself something customisable like this Emma and Roe charm bracelet, you can add or remove beads as you see fit. It can be both a bold statement, or the final touch to an outfit.

A SWIPE OF RED LIPSTICK

If all else fails (which I am sure it won’t), a red lip packs an insane amount of punch. While it might not be the accessory you need for a casual weekend brunch, it finishes off a more polished look perfectly. I have documented some of my favourite reds before, but it really is up to personal preference which brand and shade is for you.

What accessories do you fall for every time? Do you have something you like to add to most of your outfits?

I’m the same way when it comes to getting dressed. A little extra touch never hurts. Rings, scarves, and sunglasses are my favourite.
