2017 marks the 19th annual Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, and the 8th year I have been involved with it. The festival has seen many changes over the 8 years I have been involved; changes in scale, designers and even location.
This year, the festival is on the move again. Don’t worry, the free fun at Fashion Central is staying put in Forrest Chase; but Fashion Paramount is moving out to Crown Pyramid in Burswood.
In 8 years, I have seen Fashion Paramount take up residency in 4 different locations; a space adjacent to Chris Huzzard’s studio, the WA Museum, the Perth Concert Hall and now Crown Pyramid. It is a bold move for the festival as it is the first time the ticketed events will be held outside of the CBD, in a location separate to that of Fashion Central.
Location isn’t the only thing that Telstra Perth Fashion Festival are doing differently this year.
In previous years, the free activities at Fashion Central ran concurrently with the ticketed events at Fashion Paramount. While there was never an issue with overlapping show times, it did make for a very big week if you tried to fit in as many shows as you could. Trust me, I tried!
For the first time this year, the festival is being run over 2 weeks. One week for the free activations in Forrest Chase, and one week for the ticketed events at Crown Pyramid. The festival kicks off on September 7th, with the first of the activations in Forrest Chase. It is the beginning of 4 days of City of Perth retailer showcases, cultural runways and young model searches, all free for anyone to attend. Just head in to Forrest Chase and jump in line for the shows you want to see. It is that easy!

CHIRRIGER ABORIGINAL RUNWAY
Saturday, September 9, 2017 – 13:00
In a first for TPFF, local Indigenous art takes centre stage.
The Chirriger – translated as ‘splendid blue fairy wren – is a Noongar totem. Featuring the works of local Aboriginal artist Peter Farmer, Chirriger is a collaboration between himself and designer Sandra Rives of Red Opium. It promises to be a spectacular fusion of traditional Indigenous art and beautiful, fluid fashion.
RESTYLE RUNWAY
Sunday, September 10, 2017 – 14:00
Fashion and style isn’t always about the latest and greatest. In the case of Restyle, it is also about being more environmentally conscious and thrifting some of your wares! Expect to see plenty of fun outfits put together from pieces sourced from The Salvos, Good Sammies and 5 other charity partners. There are sure to be some eclectic outfits!
THE LANGUAGE OF FASHION: MULTICULTURAL RUNWAY
Saturday, September 9, 2017 – 15:00
Don’t expect to see your typical model at this show! In celebration of the diversity here in WA, the multicultural runway promises to deliver a parade of all different shapes, sizes and ethnicities; plus a selection of more modest fashions.
ENEX100 RUNWAY
Friday, September 8, 2017 – 17:30
Housing the likes of Calibre, Mimco, Nine West and Gorman, the Enex100 runway will be a huge show, full of both womens and mens fashion. Covering everything from casual to evening wear, this runway gives you a good taste of range of things that you can shop for in the CBD.
MYER FASHION RUNWAY
$50.00 ~ Thursday, September 7, 2017 – 18:30
Ok, so there is one ticketed show happening at Fashion Central. At just $50.00, this evening affair is amazing value. So much so, that over half of the tickets have already been exhausted. Fashions from Asilio, Elliatt, and more will be taking to the runway inside Myer; and the show comes with the added bonus of bubbles, canapes and a special beauty gift bag.
140PERTH: FOREVER NEW
Saturday, September 9, 2017 – 11:00
Featuring their SS17 collection, the Forever New runway show promises to be a feminine delight. Watch the show for styling inspiration, then pop over to the store immediately after to pick up the pieces you were coveting! How convenient is that?! (p.s. word has it you will get a little extra help picking up that dress you loved if you attend the show too!)
