Whether you have to buy for a tricky someone, the office secret santa or your most loved ones, these City of Perth retailers are bound to have unique christmas gifts to suit.

Getting the Christmas shopping done can be an incredibly daunting task. There is so much to think about before the ‘what should I get them’. By the time you do actually get to the ‘what should I get them’, the worry can start to set in. What if you don’t know what to get them? What if they seemingly already have everything anyone could possibly want and need?

My go-to shopping strategy for the silly season is to always go with a quirky and unique gift. There is only so much celebrity perfume or box sets of Harry Potter that one person can own. To avoid giving a gift someone already has (and the dreaded ‘I don’t know what to buy them’ scenario), consider dropping in to these city based stores to find your Christmas gifts this year.

The Butcher Shop

276 William Street Northbridge WA 6003

A mecca for all men, The Butcher Shop is part art store and part streetwear boutique. Stocking brands like AS Colour, Herschel and even pieces from local artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers, the streetwear section is chock full of little gems for the men in your life. If a clothing purchase is a little too risque, their aerosol wall, art supply section and book display are sure to hold something for an artistically inclined giftee.

Lalla Rookh Wine Store

Lower Ground 77 St. Georges Terrace, Perth, WA 6000

A nice bottle of wine is a fairly safe gifting choice when you are faced with purchasing for someone you don’t know so well, or someone who seems to have everything. If you happen to be purchasing for a wine aficionado, bypass Dan Murphy’s and head straight for the boutique Lalla Rookh Wine Store. Sommelier Jeremy has the shelves stocked with delicious ‘minimal intervention’ wines from across Europe – bottles that might be hard to come across anywhere else. He is even happy to source any requested bottle from around the world for you; just in case you want the official title of ‘best gift giver in the world’.

Eillo

218 William St Northbridge, WA 6003

Christmas shopping is pretty time consuming at the best of times. Save some precious minutes with a combined coffee pit-stop and gift shopping at Eillo. It isn’t the most expansive of gift stores – quite quaint in fact – but it is packed full with fun little pieces to pop in the stocking or buy for your secret santa. Candles, tea sets, keep cups, sunglasses, hand creams, nail polishes and even dog accessories – you name it, they stock it.

p.s. they have the most amazing takeaway coffee cups! If anyone is a Seinfeld fan, you will lose it over them!

Planet Northbridge (formerly Northside Books)

192 William St, Northbridge WA 6003

A cook book, a new novel to sink your teeth in to, or a pretty coffee table book – they all make fantastic, thoughtful gifts. Unlike it’s chainstore counterparts, Planet Northbridge has an array of quirky books that you can be 99% sure your giftee doesn’t yet have. But, if the classics are a safer choice for your gift recipient, they do have those too; along with a whole range of journals, gift cards and even games and puzzles.

Sew Unique

Suite 4, Level 1, 81 Barrack Street Perth, Western Australia

Popping in to Sew Unique is the perfect way to ensure your Christmas gifts are totally one of a kind! You can take your gifts in to get initials, names or phrases monogrammed on them (t-shirts, shoes, socks… everything!); or you can get a custom designed piece made for the special people in your life. Embroidery starts from $20.00 for simple monogramming, or you can get a quote for any custom designed art work embroidery that you want done – not just wording! If embroidery isn’t up your giftee’s alley, there are tailoring options for custom made items too.

Safari’s Record Shack

Shop 9, Arcade 189, 189 William St. Perth, WA 6000

Safari’s Record Shack is the perfect place to shop for your music loving friend or family member. Flicking through crate upon crate of second hand and rare vinyls is bound to result in you stumbling upon unique Christmas gifts. Being an independent, there are rarely double up copies in stock; and they have a heck of a lot of obscure tunes to be discovered. There is something so thoughtful and special about picking out the perfect vinyl for someone; something you don’t get when flicking through CDs. Pick up a special bottle of wine from Lalla Rookh to accompany the gift and you have the perfect pairing!

Ware Northbridge

220 William Street, Northbridge WA 6003

Another quaint gift store along William St, Ware is absolutely bursting with colour and variety. The buyer has done an amazing job of hitting the fine balance between artisanal gifts and items with a more fun, pop culture style. Think beautiful pottery bowls right next to a set of glasses that stack to look like a cactus. They stock a great range of gifts for the little ones (from cute little plush toys to puzzles and games), as well as fun homewares and a small range of clothing. Don’t forget to pick up some of their amazing wrapping paper to really make your gift stand out under the tree.

Pigeonhole

330 Murray St Perth, WA 6000

Shop P146, Level 3 ENEX100, 100 St Georges Terrace WA 6000

If you can’t find something in Pigeonhole for your giftee, then I would suggest giving up the search. It is impossible to go to Pigeonhole and not spy at least one thing you can pick up as a gift. Stocking brands like Lazy Oaf, Sunnylife, Carhartt, One Teaspoon and Happy Socks, Pigeonhole has one impressive lineup. There is something for everyone here, from clothing and accessories, to homewares and knick-knacks. They even have their own line of unique clothing and accessories.

Once the Christmas gifts have been purchased, stick around to check out the Christmas Light trail come to life. Plan your route with the map here!
